Welcome to the beautiful island of Lefkada. If you have already arranged to visit us these pages will give you ideas of what to see, where to eat and where to go. If you are still looking for a truly Greek experience, perhaps these pages will help you decide whether our island is right for you.
Lefkada or Lefkas? It really doesn't matter. Lefkada is the old name for the island. Lefkas is the modern name. The name is taken from the Greek word for white, lefko. The white rocks of the island were the inspiration for the name.
Although Lefkas was inhabited in the bronze age by the ancient Greeks, the first "modern" Greeks to settle here were the Corinthians, over two and a half thousand years ago. It is these people that have left their indelible mark on the island. It is they that dug a canal to turn the original peninsular into an island. It is many of their descendants who inhabit the island today.
